Last night the WWE presented its annual Bragging Rights PPV live from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Here are the results:
U.S. Champion Daniel Bryan defeated Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler
This opening contest delivered in a big way. These two are both great wrestlers and can put on a good show when given the opportunity. Bryan won via submission when Ziggler tapped out to the LeBell Lock in this non-title contest, putting Raw in the lead over Smackdown.
John Cena and David Otunga beat WWE Tag Team Champions Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes to become the new champions
This improptu match was made via Barrett and the mystery Raw General Manager. Cena was unwillingly paired with Otunga, but fought like only Cena could and made Cody tap out to the STF to give Nexus their first taste of championship gold.
Ted DiBiase defeated Goldust
As I said yesterday, win or lose, I was just happy that Goldust got a chance to deliver on PPV. Despite a loss, he still has DiBiase's Million Dollar belt in his possession, continuing this bizarre storyline for weeks to come on Raw.
Co-Divas Champion Layla beat Natalya to retain the title
Once again, Laycool is victorious thanks to outside interference from Michelle McCool, leaving them clutching onto the twin butterfly belts once again.
World Heavyweight Champion Kane buried The Undertaker alive
Thanks to Nexus, Kane is still World Heavyweight Champion, defeating his brother in a brutal Buried Alive match and putting The Undertaker six feet under. Why this has anything to do with the Nexus I don't know, but it looks like Undertaker is due for another vacation. Is this feud over, or has Undertaker yet to get his sweet revenge on the Big Red Monster?
Team Smackdown defeated Team Raw in a Bragging Rights Tag Team Elimination Match
Team Smackdown triumphed over Raw for the second time in a row in this match bearing the PPV's name. Edge and Rey Mysterio were the only two survivors in the seven-on-seven elimination match to decide which brand has the right to call themselves better. The following is a list of eliminations, when and with whom they occured:
Santino (Raw) via Reks at 2:38.
Kingston (SD) via Sheamus at 6:52.
Swagger (SD) via Morrison at 13:07.
Reks (SD) via Sheamus at 14:32.
Sheamus (Raw) via count-out at 15:29.
Big Show (SD) via count-out at 15:29.
Truth (Raw) via Edge at 16:42.
Morrison (Raw) via Edge at 17:09.
Del Rio (SD) via Punk at 18:05.
Punk (Raw) via Rey at 24:07.
Jackson (Raw) via Rey at 26:16.
Miz (Raw) via Edge at 27:45.
Edge & Rey win for Team Smackdown.
Wade Barrett defeated Randy Orton via disqualification, Orton still WWE Champion
In another cheap finish to a title match, John Cena found a clever way out of the match's stipulation when he caused Orton to be disqualified. The stipulation stated that if Barrett did not win the match, than Cena would be fired. Technically, Cena helped Barrett win by getting Orton disqualified, saving his own job and preventing Barrett from winning the title in the process. However, fans are growing increasingly tired of these cheap PPV finishes and the Cena/Nexus storyline has officially worn out its welcome.
Overall, this is being looked at as an overwhelmingly poor PPV outing. The three main events did not deliver, and WWE continues the cheap booking in dragging out the storylines week after week. Wth a full month until Survivor Series, hopefully things will change. Until then, WWE is going to continue to receive less than spectacular ratings and PPV buys.
Tune into Raw tonight at 9 eastern on USA for follow up.
In other news, WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011, THQ's new WWE video game, drops tomorrow. With it comes great new features such as WWE Universe mode and improved Community Creations. I'll be picking up my long awaited copy and reviewing it later this week. Until then, you've been Ringside.
