It has been quite a week in the world of WWE. The company's top star has been "fired," there is a new WWE Champion after Raw (when's the last time that happened?), and the King of the Ring returns this Monday.
Let's start with this past Sunday's Survivor Series Pay Per View.
Survivor Series Results:
WWE Champion Randy Orton def. Wade Barrett with soecial referee John Cena.
As per stipulation, Cena is "fired."
World Heavyweight Champion Kane fought Edge to a no contest.
Team Mysterio beat Team Del Rio in a Traditional Survivor Series Match.
Big Show and Rey Mysterio were the sole survivors.
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler defeated Kaval
United States Champion Daniel Bryan defeated Ted DiBiase
Natalya defeated Laycool in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match to become the new Unified Divas Champion
John Morrison beat Sheamus
Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater retained the WWE Tag Team Championship against Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov
Night of Champions returns! Oddly enough, every current WWE title was on the line this Sunday, though we only saw one new champion in Natalya.
Overall, another average to below average WWE PPV outing. This one was very storyline heavy. It's good to see Kaval get a shot with an IC Title match on PPV. I really thought Del Rio's moment was going to come as the sole survivor in his match, yet the WWE chooses to go with the already over Big Show and Mysterio.
John Morrison's victory was surprising, but well deserved. After being lost in the shuffle after the draft earlier this year, it looks like Morrison's long overdue push is finally coming to fruition. He is great in the ring, and a guy like Sheamus can certainly help elevate him.
But the biggest story to come out of this one is of course the ongoing saga between John Cena and Nexus. WWE, again passing up a great opportunity for a heel turn, decide to keep Cena's character intact. Now, the WWE's cash cow is "fired," though we all know he's not going anywhere. Perhaps he'll be taking some time off, or, more likely, the creative team has just run out of ideas. Either way, I'm not high on this storyline, especially one so hard to believe, but it will be interesting to see how this one unfolds. And thanks to Roddy Piper, who single handedly sold this match last Monday, the PPV wasn't a total disaster.
But what a way to come off it on Raw! You can catch my reaction submitted to the Raw Reax feature on pwtorch.com!
